Our Mission
To champion diversity, equity and inclusion in orthopaedics worldwide.

Why Diversity in
Orthopaedics Matters
Orthopaedic surgery has the lowest proportion of women and under-represented minorities of all the medical specialties worldwide.

Significant healthcare disparities have been documented for these populations. In practical terms, more than half of the community faces barriers to accessing orthopaedic care and experiences poorer outcomes when they do.

There is strong evidence that diverse healthcare teams deliver more equitable, patient-centred care. A more diverse orthopaedic workforce is urgently needed to attract and retain talent, drive inclusive research and improve outcomes for all members of our communities.

Please join and support the International Orthopaedic Diversity Alliance (IODA) to help improve orthopaedic healthcare so the entire community benefits.

IODA Charter Signatories
In signing the IODA Charter, global orthopaedic organisations have made a commitment to diversity, equity and inclusion. These organisations recognize that increasing the diversity of our organisations will not only attract the top talent and make our organisations more innovative, it will also reduce the disparity in orthopaedic care. Diversity of healthcare teams enables us to understand and to meet our patient’s needs more effectively, providing higher quality and more equitable, patient-centered care.
